The rehoming process at KAW is simple yet stringent.
For Adoption within Delhi-NCR:Our process can take from 4-6 weeks, and longer if you are planning to fly the dog outside India. Every dog is different, and our dedication to our dogs means we will scrutinize each application and follow our adoption procedure before deciding to send them to their forever homes.
The steps for adopting a dog from KAW are detailed below:
Step 1 – Search & Match
Please go through our adoption gallery to see all the dogs who are available for adoption. All dogs that are ready for rehoming will have their own profile providing details about their character and the sort of home that they are looking for. Once you have found a dog that matches your requirements, make a note of the dog's reference number and write a mail to us with reference number as subject line showing your interest.
Step 2 – Register
You will need to register your details and provide us with photographic proof of identity and proof of address. You can do this in by emailing us at (email id) and filling up the form provided with picture of the dog you are interested in.
After registering we be carrying out a home visit. This is to for example check that your garden is suitable to exercise an energetic dog. If you live in rented accommodation, you may be asked to provide written permission from your landlord confirming that they are happy for you to keep a pet in the property.
Step 3 – Assess
At this stage our Rehoming team will consider the Behaviour and background of the dog that you are interested in to see whether they may be a suitable match for you to come and meet them. Each dog is assessed when they come into the Home to find out what they are like and what sort of home, lifestyle and environment would best suit them. Within this assessment we consider a dog’s suitability to be rehomed with:
- Other dogs - we will take into consideration a dog’s previous behaviour around other dogs.
- Cats - we will consider a dog’s previous behaviour around cats and their apparent ‘chase drive’ which indicates if a dog can live with a cat or not.
- Children - a lot of the dogs in our care arrive as strays with no information about their previous history. Thus, we take great care when rehoming dogs to households with younger children.
We cannot guarantee any animal seen on the website will be suitable for your home. Please keep an open mind regarding other matches and our team will ensure that we help you find the perfect match.
Step 4 – Rehoming and
Once you decide to adopt, your dog will receive a final medical check-up and a member of our Rehoming team will go through any additional information that you may need to help your pet settle into their new home. You can reach us anytime post adoption for any guidance with regards to care of your pet.
There is no adoption fee however, we may ask you to pay for the below in case it hasn’t be sponsored by someone else.
- Initial vaccinations, flea and worming treatment
- A collar, leash and identification tag
