Our History

KAW'S BEGINNING

In 2012, our founder saw a man brutally beating a dog and trying to smash his head with a big rock. That was the turning point in her life and a moment of realisation about the kind of atrocities these stray animals go through at the hands of humans. Till 2014 she volunteered at different shelters and rescued dogs from around Delhi-NCR to help them. This was also the year she lost 37 of her rescued dogs at different shelters due to various reasons. During this period, she realised most of the deaths were occurring due to a lack of resources and inadequate facilities and substandard treatment. She strongly felt that rescued animals should not receive subpar care and treatment and that their welfare should be treated with the highest standards of quality and integrity.

Kannan Animal Welfare started as a project of our Parent Trust Kannan Foundation in the year 2014. Due to the huge popularity of this project, it was registered as a Non-Profit Company on 23 May 2020 under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 and named as Kannan Animal Welfare Foundation. In the year 2021, Kannan Animal Welfare Foundation INC was established in the USA and it acquired the status of 501(c).

Since its inception, KAW has helped 2000+ dogs in the most unfortunate conditions imaginable and rehomed 180+ dogs overseas.

VISION

Kannan Animal Welfare aims to work on more than merely ensuring the well-being of community animals. Through our conscious efforts and daily operations, we envision a world where every community animal will have the due right to life and the respect that each living being deserves in this ecosystem, rather than existing in the never-ending ordeal of scouting for the next meal or living in a constant cycle of the threat posed to them by several external conditions and heartless humans.

If we truly have to define our vision, we firmly believe – “Organisations like KAW should cease to exist one day because there will be no more suffering and ailing animals to be rescued!

Mission

MISSION

Since the inception of Kannan Animal Welfare, we have quietly upheld our vision for the care of rescued animals. We are now focused on developing various ways to enhance our ongoing permanent rescue efforts. Our goal is to save more innocent lives and establish a well-organized shelter. Through our organization’s external activities, which align with our vision of raising awareness about our non-human companions, we aim to engage the youth of India. Our educational initiatives will illuminate the lives of rescued animals and foster a deeper understanding and compassion among young minds in our country.
