Your gift feeds a rescued dog. At tax time, 80G hands some of it back.
KAW is registered under 12A and 80G, so most Indian donors can claim a 50% deduction on what they give. No jargon here — just how it works and what you need to keep.
What is the 80G tax exemption?
Section 80G is the part of India’s income-tax law that rewards you for giving. Donate to a registered charity like KAW and half of what you give can be deducted from the income you’re taxed on. Less taxable income means a smaller tax bill.
So an 80G tax exemption isn’t a refund of your donation. It’s a deduction. The money still goes to the animals — the government just stops taxing the slice of your income you chose to give away.
KAW holds valid 12A and 80G registration with the Income-Tax Department. That registration is what makes your donation eligible in the first place. Without it, a receipt is just a thank-you note.
How much do you actually save?
How much you save
Donations to KAW qualify for a 50% deduction, and that deduction is capped at 10% of your adjusted gross total income. For almost every individual donor, that ceiling sits far above what you’re likely to give, so the simple version holds: half your donation becomes a deduction.
Say you give ₹10,000. Half of it — ₹5,000 — is your deduction. What that saves in rupees then depends on your tax slab.
| Your donation to KAW | 80G deduction (50%) | Saved at 5% | Saved at 20% | Saved at 30% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹2,000 | ₹1,000 | ₹50 | ₹200 | ₹300 |
| ₹10,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹250 | ₹1,000 | ₹1,500 |
| ₹25,000 | ₹12,500 | ₹625 | ₹2,500 | ₹3,750 |
Figures are illustrative and exclude the 4% health & education cess, which pushes the saving slightly higher. They assume your total 80G giving stays within the 10%-of-income cap.
A donor in the 30% slab who gives ₹10,000 sees roughly ₹1,500 come back at tax time. The animals get the full ₹10,000 either way.

The steps: receipt, PAN, and Form 10BE
Claiming your donation tax benefit is a short list, and KAW does most of the paperwork.
Five simple steps
01
Give digitally — UPI, card, net banking, or bank transfer. Cash above ₹2,000 doesn't qualify.
02
Share your PAN and address when you donate so KAW can report the gift.
03
KAW files Form 10BD once a year — a statement of every donation received.
04
KAW issues Form 10BE — your donation certificate and official tax proof.
05
Keep Form 10BE and your receipt. When you file your return, enter the donation under 80G. Hold on to both documents in case you're ever asked.
That’s it. Give right, keep two documents, claim once a year.
One quick thing: old regime vs new regime
Here’s the catch worth knowing before you count on the savings. The 80G deduction is available under the old tax regime. The newer default regime, with its lower slab rates, generally doesn’t allow it.
So if you file under the new regime, your donation still does enormous good — it just won’t reduce your tax. If claiming 80G matters to you, check which regime you’re on before you file, or ask whoever prepares your return. Either way, the dogs are fed.
Why give to KAW specifically
Because the registration is real and the work is visible. KAW — Kannan Animal Welfare Foundation — is a Section 8 non-profit that has run for more than 11 years out of its sanctuary in Kapashera, on the edge of Delhi.
Every single day, KAW feeds 256 resident animals inside the sanctuary and over 200 street animals in the surrounding area. The monthly food bill alone runs to lakhs. A 24×7 rescue helpline (+91-9999670042) means an injured dog on a Delhi road at 2am still has somewhere to call.
Your 80G-eligible donation pays for the medicine, the vet, and the next meal. Not a brochure.
What your donation keeps running
- 256 resident animals fed every day inside the Kapashera sanctuary
- 200+ street animals fed daily in the neighbourhood around it
- 24×7 emergency rescue helpline: +91-9999670042
- 11+ years of rescue, treatment, and rehoming across Delhi-NCR
Registered, and glad to prove it
- Section 8 non-profit company — a structure built for charity, not profit
- 12A and 80G registered in India: your donation is eligible for the tax deduction
- US 501(c)(3) status for donors giving from the United States
- Every donor gets a receipt; PAN donors receive Form 10BE for their 80G claim
Prefer to give every month? A monthly gift smooths KAW's food and medicine bills — and each year's giving is still 80G-eligible.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. KAW holds valid 12A and 80G registration, so donations made digitally qualify for a 50% deduction, within the 10%-of-income limit. Share your PAN when you give so KAW can report it.
Form 10BE is your donation certificate — the proof the tax department accepts for an 80G claim. You don’t apply for it. KAW files Form 10BD once a year and then issues your 10BE, which you keep with your return.
Only up to ₹2,000. Cash donations above that don’t qualify. Pay by UPI, card, net banking, or bank transfer and the whole amount stays eligible.
Half your donation becomes a deduction, and the rupee value depends on your slab. Give ₹10,000 and a 30%-slab donor saves around ₹1,500; a 20%-slab donor saves about ₹1,000.
Usually not. 80G generally applies under the old regime. Check which regime you file under, or ask your tax preparer, before you count on the saving.
Give today. Save tax later. Feed a rescued animal now.
You’ll get an 80G-valid receipt, and if you add your PAN, your Form 10BE for the year. The animals in Kapashera don’t wait — and neither should you.
